Abstract:
There were hardly any researches of the archaeological relics of the Khazar Khaganate up to the 20-ies of the last Century. We should mention at the end of the 19th Century the excavations of Babenko in Ukraine. These excavations were continued by Makarenko at the beginning of the 20th Century, not only in Ukraine, but also in South Russia; at the famous Khazar fortification, Majackoje Gorodische, in the Don-bend. The excavation of this fort was continued by us in 1976 when we joined the work of the Soviet-Bulgarian-Hungarian expedition.
