Interpreter skill development requires both formal training and hands-on
experience. This study examines skill acquisition through autoethnography, focus groups, and
observational research. Findings highlight gaps between formal education and industry demands,
emphasizing the need for continuous learning. While some interpreters expand into adjacent fields, others risk losing competitiveness without adaptation. AI and digitalization further reshape the
profession, making technical proficiency essential. Strengthening training through mentorship,
simulations, and case-based learning can better prepare interpreters for evolving challenges.
