Cultural Translation of Kazakh Films into English: The Context of the Historical Film “The Crying Steppe”

Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the translation methods of films to achieve more appropriate translation between two distinct cultures without disturbing the meaning. Film translation requires accurate translation of words. Finding the exact translation for some specific cultural words could be a challenging task. For this purpose, a qualitative research method was used to conduct a comparative analysis of the historical film and its translation. The current research work investigates and analyses the English subtitles in the cultural translation of the film “The Crying Steppe” on the basis of linguistic and cultural peculiarities. As a result, several methods for cultural translation have been explored.
